Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, more commonly known by his nickname Caligula, was the 3rd Roman Emperor who reigned from 16 March 37 until his assassination on 24 January 41. Caligula was a member of the Julio-Claudian dynasty which descended from Augustus. Caligula's father, Germanicus, was the adopted son of emperor Tiberius and one of Rome's most beloved generals.
